This chart provides general selection guidance, not product certification. Finished brass/cement tiles have not been independently tested for wet DCOF, abrasion, breaking strength or other composite performance. A cement-tile sealer does not waterproof an assembly or necessarily protect brass from tarnishing. Confirm project requirements with a qualified installer.

Handmade Characteristics

Handmade cement tile may vary naturally in shade, tone, texture and dimension. Exposed brass may tarnish, develop a patina, or change in sheen over time; light scratching and wear may be visible. Inspect and blend tiles from multiple boxes before setting.

The uncoated brass inlay sits flush with the cement surface and is mechanically secured with anchoring legs extending into the tile body. The exact brass alloy composition has not yet been confirmed. Refer to each product listing for dimensions, thickness, box quantity and coverage.

Installation & Care

Use an installer experienced with handmade cement tile and decorative metal inlay. For suitable interior applications, confirm substrate, setting materials, grout and movement joints; test sealing, grout cleanup and protection procedures on spare tiles. General cement tile installation instructions may not address all brass-specific requirements.

Clean with a mild pH-neutral cleaner confirmed compatible with both cement and brass, using soft, nonabrasive tools. Avoid acids, strongly alkaline cleaners, ammonia, metal polishes, chemical tarnish removers, and routine abrasive cleaning.

The uncoated brass inlay may naturally oxidize, darken, or develop a patina over time. No specific preventive treatment is currently recommended to preserve its original appearance.

To remove surface oxidation, the manufacturer recommends gently using #400-grit sandpaper on the brass inlay only. Do not sand the surrounding cement surface or the entire tile. This is a restoration procedure, not routine cleaning. Test on a spare tile and contact Cement Tile Shop before treating installed tile.

Resealing is not necessary when sanding is limited to the brass inlay. If the surrounding cement surface is accidentally abraded, clean the affected area thoroughly, allow it to dry completely, and apply a compatible penetrating sealer according to the sealer manufacturer's instructions.
